Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

What matters highly to me is

frequency independent directivity - which I one of the characteristics I associate with coherency. Whatever it is, make it consistent top to bottom.

An example of a worst case scenario is old JBL monitors like the L100/110 series. They ran the 5" midrange way too high where the directivity at the top of its range clamped down significantly - then immediately transitioned to a wide dispersion tweeter. I found that to the the sonic equivalent of a fun house mirror with top and bottom image perspective wide with the middle noticeably pinched.
