As far as bang for the buck kits are the way to go. Brand speakers add a significant hype-profit factor into the cost.
A LOTTTTTT of effort is put into these kit designs. Mainly to sell expensive drivers that WILL sound good. Instead of just stuffing money into a box and wishing it to sound good.
You need people like over at Madisound, that know what they are doing, to work out the bugs and tweak the crap out of these kits. So you're happy. And hooked on the next project.
It would be FAR cheaper to commission a cabinet to be built than trying to find or buy a speaker with equal quality or sound.
