This doesn't really address the packing problem, but I can relate to the daughter moving thing. One of my daughters (of 4) moved to Salt Lake City and from here in Virginia, as they say, that's a "fer piece". Her mom & I were depressed at our "baby" leaving but low & behold, she charmed a young man, brought him back here, married him, now all is well.
