Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

RE: What speaker from at least 20 years ago do you wish you could still buy new?

This is pretty easy for me. My Audio Note J was sold in 1992 and it is still being sold - ditto my AN E and my old AN K. And a decade earlier by Snell.

But you see a lot of companies bringing back their old speakers in updated fashion - the other day I saw the old (or new) updated Wharfedale Airdale but Tannoy and Klipsch etc have brought back old designs and modernized them presumably. Interestingly, they're usually the BEST speakers in the company line-ups trouncing all their newer products which suggests the old designers actually listened to music rather than JUST relying on computer programs and some dimwit short session blind test to tell the makers what to do with their products.

Some of the older designs may have merely been let down by the physical parts limitations but not the actual acoustics of the product's cabinet etc. I think you could take a lot of old designs and tweak them into something a lot better.

And you also notice that in most cases the flagship speakers they bring back are wide baffle designs - hmm.
