EV SP15 history?

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

A friend of mine just acquired three EV SP15 woofers with chrome-plated baskets and brown magnet covers with a gray accent stripe.
I'm having a hard time tracking down much history on these via Google. EV has some documentation, but it seems mostly to be from a later production period.
Were they the ancestors of the SROs or a parallel model? And are these Alnico or ceramic?
