I've owned late 70s Cornwalls for a few years listening daily. The Wife and I rearranged parts of our house and they didn't fit in anymore due to size. They are fun and sound better than would be expected based on mediocre parts quality and engineering. Ya can't beat the box construction.
They do like being against a wall and bass depth looses half an octave if placed out into the room.
I grapped up a pair of JBL SRX515s which are smaller but have less bass and sensitivity but are smoother and sound better to me across the spectrum. Parts quality is one or two steps above the Cornwalls. SRX715s or better yet SRX738s would be the bees knees. I wouldn't spend $4K on new Cornwalls, 'd look at JBL prosound.
