RE: How to get the midrange right ?

...of course the midrange is the most important because that's where most of the music is and where the ear is most sensitive.

I find first order crossovers are important if they are phase and time coherent.

In about 1981 I overheard a conversation between Jon Dahlquist and David Wilson, who was in the process of building his first speaker.

Dahlquist said that once you get the midrange right, the next most important part is the lower midrange, or the transition to the bass. Too much lower mid and it will sound too warm and woolly; too little and it will sound thin and bare.
