How to get the midrange right ?

Hi
i found a very interesting lecture of Mr. D'Appolito on Youtube (link attached). I love his MTM concept very much indeed.
At the very beginning he stresses the importance of getting the midrange right.
But i have some very basic doubts:
1) can we agree on this paramount importance of the midrnage ?
2) what is "midrange" ? i mean ... what is its extension ?
3) would it be advisable to avoid an x-over cut inside the midrange, for instance by having a single driver covering all of it ?

Opinions/advice will be very welcome and appreciated.
Thanks a lot.
Kind regards,
bg
