Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

RE: Vandersteen Quatros on an unlevel carpeted floor.

I have those outriggers for my speakers, (ohm's), which need to be level, and level with one another, to get the holography to happen and lock in...

my dedicated listening room is a carpeted basement, with a sloped/tapered floor... so have the same situation as yourself. I had them made for 3/8 threaded spikes I have (aluminum Tg audio Pointy Things - just love these cones and what they do for staging)... man, what a huge difference it made. In terms of sound, sound stage, enjoyment, detail... If you can get aluminum cones, I prefer these to Stainless... and I am NOT a fan of brass cones. (listened to all of them since, not just on the outriggers). But just know, the cones/spikes chosen do matter. Not just the plates/outriggers.

Another solution I had prior, was a set of Merlin Z-feet (latest) with longer spikes in one set of speakers, versus the other (same wood locking collar). They work well, and sound good too. The Z feet balance the fine line of proper leveling, locking the speakers securely, without losing detail and vividness, and air. These are 1/4 20 thread (for Merlin VSM's). I found the z-feet the best solution for the Merlin VSM-Mxe, even with the outriggers. The gentleman who now owns the Merlins, still chooses the Outriggers with Zfeet, versus plain Z-feet, in his level room...
