Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Don't know anything about the internal construction, just love the sound.

Since our move to a second home, I have been without a stereo. In a small reading room overlooking our lake, I placed a Tivoli, a Terk antenna, a small CD player and two Yamaha YST M7 computer speakers. The Tivoli fills up the small room with a deep sound and even the spruce cone Yamahas sound very natural. I love listening to late evening jazz on the Tivoli from our excellent Northwest radio station KPLU at 88.5.

This is funny, but I can just imagine this being my final setup in a nursing home. You certainly cannot take anything big with you, so the 10,000 LPs will have to go.

Thanks for bringing up the Tivoli radio Bill, as I hesitated to say something on this site that usually discusses large, full range, systems. It's amazing that I could be happy with the sound of something so small. Of course, it would not work in a large room, but these speakers are excellent for their size. When I was auditioning small computer speakers for my kid's college dorm rooms, I was amazed how unnatural and metallic many of the computer speakers sounded. I was real pleased to find the Tivoli and Yamaha units and still have them after 14 years.
