I have a 60 watt RMS per channel tube amp with a stiff power supply and large audio transformers. Any speaker in the 88dB+ range having 8 ohms nominal impedance and a reasonably flat impedance that does not dip below 4 ohms on the low frequency side should satisfy the amp. A better speaker is my question. The Klipsch horns have a little too much bite (aggressive) per my tastes on various PP amps. A single-ended amp would be a better match for the Klipsch Forte. No doubt the modified Klipsch Forte are good speakers.
I am as much a tech as an audiophile. I like to experiment. JBL L300s handily outperform the Klipsch Forte- no contest. The ADS 910 speakers were a little dark per my tastes, but sounded better than the Klipsch Forte with an upgraded ST-120 PP amp.
Thus, perhaps an audiophile has been thru a similar exercise and will recommend speakers for my amp. Perhaps a DIY speaker project may be recommended for the $1K. Or, perhaps a higher budget may be required.
