RE: tube friendly speakers

As a general rule of thumb, I have found that speakers that are critically damped either mechanically or electrically have a good chance of being tube friendly in addition to the usual high sensitivity and relatively gentle (but not necessarily high) impedance curve.

So, speakers that tend to have a high Q bass alignment often NEED an amplifier with a higher damping factor but a speaker that is critically damped or slightly overdamped does not need the amp to "control" the bass. Other tube friendly speakers can be found in those rare ones that use electromagnets rather than permanent magnets. With these, you can optimize the damping of a driver electrically by controlling the magnetic field strength of the driver motor.
