Both speaker and listening chair placement can yield wild results. Speakers on stands with woofer two foot or so above the floor vs. floor standing designs with woofer close to the floor can also be wildly different.
As we all know Roy Allison's papers show the rooms boundry effects and his designs work with those effects.
The advantage of DIY is that we can design and integrate our systems to our environments.
Experiment!
