Rooms with even dimension multiples may have pretty significant modes. Other rooms, however, allow for optimizing speaker placement for much better results. My main listening room is a lucky 16x25x7.5 with some non-parallel walls and irregular sections. After considerable experimentation with placement and the use of a dozen DIY bass traps, I get very uniform bass response.
You can find a third octave measurement plot in my gallery. While an RTA plot would most certainly be more ragged, it is largely devoid of any serious peaks or valleys and sounds pretty darn neutral.
