Actually with the advent of surface mount and crazy high frequencies, it has been my experience that components have been getting better and better quality wise. It is less expensive to make one high quality resistor or cap that can operate into the megahertz or above than to make multiple lines. Therefore box store stuff is sounding better all the time. Not that it often can go toe to toe with the best, but the margins are lessening all the time. That tends to mean you have to build or go used and upgrade components. Most are not ready for that, so if 50 watts is sufficient, I'd stand fast until you are able to make a substantive move up. I went the piecemeal method and it was far more expensive and disappointing than bidding your time and saving pennies for a really good move would be, IME, YMMV... Either way, it's something to think about.
Best Regards,
Lou
