Gentleman: Since I posted this last year I acquired the Vanderteen 2CE Signatures and made other changes listed below:
Replaced Macbook Pro with a dedicated Mac Mini with 1 TB Fushion Drive running Amarra 2.6 Software.
All power cords are Verastarr Grand Illusion, and interconnect is Balanced Verastarr Grand Illussion, speaker cable is bi-wire Clear Day Silver Shotgun.
I find the Vandys to be very good match with Ayre and a major bargain, however I would like to find a different more refined loudspeaker. Vandys do everything right but I want to move up at this point.
Bass response is very good so that is not the issue, I listen at low to medium SPLs, mostly jazz, vocals, indie, rock once in a while.
I toyed with upgrading to the Ayre AX-5, but the price difference is major and not sure if it would address this.
Wondering if anyone has used Merlins, Sonus Fabers, Kef, or others with any success since I am open to any suggestions.
Your input is as always greatly appreciated--
