RE: Older ProAc speakers vs. new Revel

I also have a pair of Proac 3.5s are still find them pretty good after so many years. I use a REL strata II subwoofer with them though as I find the bass is not quite as strong on the 3.5s as other Proacs I've heard before. The rear ported 3.8 that superseded the 3.5 had a lot more bass (and also more midbass boom in a smaller room or the wrong room). The 3.8 sounds more like the 2.5 (which was also very bassy for it's size). I've not heard the newer Proac floor ported designs but they are probably also good. likely a similar house sound with some improvements like people have said.

Not heard Revels either, but I have heard Sonus Fabers and highly recommend them, - maybe one of the Cremona range would be just the ticket(Cremona M), or even the standmount Auditor Ms sound amazing. They are very coherent sounding due to the first order crossovers used, which I generally prefer to the higher order crossovers used in other speakers. The drivers play like one speakers all in phase. Once you have heard that it's hard to go back in my opinion.

A used set of the original Dunlavys would be nice (e.g the SCIV), - All Dunlavys are also first order time aligned designs, but as a downside they are very big!

Otherwise how about a set of Panels? The Magnepan 20.7 would get my vote but they are quite expensive. Truly amazing speakers. The 3.7s are smaller and cheaper but don't go as low in the bass and won't play as loud. Both use first order phase correct crossovers (NB this is the not the case with older Maggies).
