For what I do at work, the object is to have them be faithful since I have no control over what people will play through them.
A good indicator of faithfulness is the ability to be included in a generation loss recording, the more generations one can record and play before sounding bad, the better.
Generally when I am evaluating a system I use good ‘hifi’ recordings.
If you have headphones on your computer, here are a couple samples of those recordings being played in three different large / difficult empty rooms.
