In that price range I would audition both the Vandersteen Quatros and Thiel 2.7's. I have recently become a convert to the time and phase aligned school of speaker design. It was a revelation to me. I was also impressed by Soundsmith speakers at the CAF show. After listening to dozens of expensive and splashy speakers, the Soundsmiths where supremely musical and coherent.
