Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Why so jumpy?

I notice that you have some very expensive gear in your system(s), so 400 bucks for a set of jumpers might seem like nothing to you. Spending 400 extra bucks on replacement jumper cables may not reap 400 extra bucks at resale time. You'd be lucky to get 100 extra bucks at resale time because of the new jumpers. So may I assume that, for you, this entire thing is a more about pride than profit?

If I was someone who spends big bucks on speaker cables then I would probably want my expensive jumper cables to match my expensive speaker cables. If/when it comes time to sell the speakers, I would simply tell the prospective buyer, "For optimum sound, your jumpers should always match your speaker cables...". Such a statement may or may not be true, but because it *sounds reasonable* we can feel optimistic.

Provide your buyer with a cheap set of jumpers for *temporary use* and be done with it. By depriving potential buyers of the original set of jumpers, you might actually be doing them a favor!

Another possible option would be to sell the speakers set up for "single-jumper biwiring". Cable guru John Risch here at AA recomends this grounding scheme when biwiring. This involves connecting the "negative" speaker terminals together when biwiring ("positive" terminals without jumpers). I have tried it and I know that it works and sounds just fine. Maybe, it even sounds *better* that way? Be the judge and try "single-jumper biwiring" for yourself...
