Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Some Quatro experience with this.

I would love to work with 5A's...I envy you. I have had Quatro's for 4+ years now (and really like them), and I switched out the stock cords for some older Elrod Statement PC's with very noticeable improvements in bass depth and control, but interestingly, also improvements well up into the midrange (a bit more detail being differentiated, a tad more harmonic richness, all very naturally realized). I'm not necessarily saying this particular cord is the way to go (although it sure works for me), just that playing with aftermarket PC's can definitely elevate the performance of these speakers IME. I certainly would not go back to the stock cords.

I had to use some Vampire IEC adapters/extenders because the friggin' heat sinks interfere so much. I did see someone selling some 5A's once who had dremel-ground the heat sinks away just enough to allow for bigger terminations on PC's - - smart move IMO, but I haven't done it yet to my Quatro's (resale?). I will do it to my 7's when I have them, by God!
