I know that system synergy plays a big role. I'm quite certain that the hi-fi setup I have doesn't sound their best due to Proacs liking tube amplification more. Ayre apparently is not the best match for Proac. I didn't know this going in when I purchased the items (yes, my fault for not doing the research). Regardless though, the KEF being an all in one package allows me to forget about worrying about what works with what.
