You are a Maggie owner, so you've probably heard about the Mini-Maggie system. Magnepan says that they were designed specifically for desktop use. Several other manufacturers offer speakers that are specifically designed for use on desktops, consoles, or for close proximity to the wall behind. People have tried using the Mini Maggies on stands but that is inviting a struggle. At the very least, an additional (expensive) matching subwoofer might be required.The main issues to be concerned with in such cases are correct tonal balance and adequate bass reinforcement. If placed too far out in the open, we might have trouble maintaining both of those things in proper proportion. Our personal preferences in sound might differ from those of the manufacturer, of course, but I'm just sayin'...
