Hi, I have a similar issue. My unit is 802 S3 matrix and it is black ash wood encased. Just wonder did you fix your problem and how? I contacted BW and this bass unit woofer can be purchased through http://www.bwgroupusa.com/bwgroup-parts/index.php/bw/speakers/800-series/matrix-800-series/m802s3/matrix-802-s3-bass-unit.html. This to me sounds like the easiest solution. You just need Allen wrenches to get the job done.
