Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Curious, how useful do you find video reports on speakers?

I have a pretty decent set of speakers hooked up to my iMac, and have been listening to several different brands via AV Showrooms video reports. All things being equal on my end, and somewhat equal on the other end, considering all video reports are recorded at shows, in crappy hotel rooms, these speakers have really impressed me, compared to others viewed in the same manner, with their tight bass, and overall presentation. About 3 min. in, he sits down in the sweet spot, and shuts up. Now before you pounce all over this post, I'm well aware this is by no means a critical way of auditioning loudspeakers, but never the less, overall differences can be heard. I also like being about to get a sense of the scale (size) of the speaker, when set up in a room, with people walking around them. Often times when you visit a manufactures website, they have a small low rez photo of the speaker, with no furnishing or people in the shot, so no sense of scale in a real room.

I enjoy these video reports, and wish there were more of them.

After reading the recent Positive Feedback review of the Janszen zA2.1 speakers, and checking out this video report, I think I'm ready to take them up on their 30 day no risk audition. Or if they plan on being at the RMAF this year, checking them out there for sure.
