I would say below a certain level (not necessarily price) it may not make much difference.
I replaced generic cables with homemade Cat5 'woven' cables, didn't hear much difference. Then I got Audioquest Slate cables (the 'old' round style) and it sounded better, but not a huge difference.
I had upgraded components along the way ... by the time I had purchased some Analysis Plus Oval 9 cables several years ago, I think my system was likely in the >$3000 range. I heard an immediate improvement in many areas.
I would think if your total system cost is >$2000 or so, you may hear improvements from cables/interconnects. Possibly below that, not so much.
If you would list your components, that would help people make more helpful suggestions.
