The Only Good Speaker is an Old Speaker

Just ask Bart Mudley.

The older, the better. Back in the good old days, they didn't have computers to help design properly. Many didn't even have much knowledge, or engineering competance.

Speaker makers used fine, resonant plywood for cabinets, with no egregious bracing. Later, they used fine, resonant, crumbly particle board, which takes on water in humid environments.

Speaker drivers had lots of good breakup, and they were operated well past breakup mode regions. Where are all of those fine 18 inch woofer, coaxial horn tweeter drivers today? Huh?

Do you think you're going to find an authoritative, big horn system with 16 db peaks @ 7Khz plus uncontrolled cycles of ringing, and bass group delay ranging on virtual echo, being manufactured today? I think not. Nope. Those were the days.

They just don't make them the way they used to.
