Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Impressive Budget High End Sysrem

I was looking for some great computer speakers, and upon the suggestion of one of my mentors, I bought a pair of Fostex PM.05 self powered studio monitors. They are a 5 in 2 way with built in amps.
They are ungodly musical.
So, my friend heard them, and we ordered a pair for his room, to use with a Denon Receiver with pre outs.
He already had an Infinity subwoofer, with the built in RABOS Equalizer.

We placed the Fostex PM 05 monitors on stands, and had to get a pair of long RCA to XLR Male connectors to go from the Denon Receiver pre outs, into the Fostex Monitors. The Fostex PM 05 Monitors have built in amps, so all you have to do is run out the pre outs of your pre amp or reciver, and you are in business!

WE set the digital crossover in the Denon Receiver for 80 hz, and let the Infinity Subwoofer handle the bass below that.

People, let me tell you, the sheer musicality of these Fostex Monitors are amazing!
The midrange and imaging are literally to die for. Compared to my old B&W Matrix 801's, the little Fostex are just as good, if not better, in the midrange, and imaging.
The Fostex Tweeters are ultra smooth, lacking just a little air and detail, compared to the B&W 801's.

Freed by the Denon's crossover to not see any Bass below 80 hz, the little Fostex will play plenty loud.
The Infinity Subwoofer with the built in RABOS equalizer, if adjusted properly, has fast, powerful, musical Bass.

The whole system is simply amazing, and will quite possibly blow away what you have now, seriously.

The little Fostex PM 05 Monitors we found for 299.00 a pair.

How the hell these are used for Monitors is beyond me. They make even bad recordings sound listenable, and great recordings sound spectacular.
