At that price, we're supposedly in "cost no object / aesthetic not primary consideration" territory.
As ugly as some of those systems are, they had BETTER sound damned good - or meet some very impressive objective design goals. Funny, with these top top dollar systems, often there is little said about what their system design goals were, and how they perform in real-world conditions.
Perhaps some rely on "something that expensive just HAS to be good!".
In others, the design mantra is obvious while in others it's not clear what they were thinking...
