Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Do not recommend MP3's

MP3 files have been tailored for the HUMAN hearing system, and what we tend to overlook or not need to hear the musical content.

This does NOT necessarily translate to other species, some of what the MP3 file is throwing out might be needed for your studies.

Note that whatever speaker you use will distort and compromise the sound quite enough, you don't need to add the MP3 file issues on top of that.

BTW, I agree with some of the other posts with regard to using a speaker with much more bandwidth than a low end of 3000 Hz, even if the extra bandwidth just helps keep the envelope distortion factor down to a minimum.

I would recommend a speaker with as much low end response as you can fit into your budget and backpack space.
