I don't pretend to know the 'true' answer but for me, I'm ok with 'zip cord'.
I've been using it and was curious about 'boutique' wires. Through happenstance, I sold something to a guy on ebay once and we communicated back/forth & clicked.
He said he wanted me to try his fancy boutique wires since he had extra and felt I'd love them. He sent them to me free of charge. These things are massive, multi woven monsters.
I was lazy & left them be.
Later, I got curious about this subject and made a public request that I wanted to try some various wires so I could PROVE to myself that there was a difference.
I did not care if the difference was good or bad. I just WANTED to be able to go between two wires and go "ooooohhhhhhh, yes!!! I can clearly discern a difference between the wires" Let me reiterate.... I WANTED to hear a difference just to know that it happens. I was not going in as a doubting Thomas. I was eager to hear some of the flowering descriptions that people sometimes use, even if I didn't like them.
Someone said they had some and ostensibly "guaranteed" me that I'd hear a difference. This wire was constructed totally different with other stranded wires but a very stiff center core wire. VERY stiff.
I played around with these over several months so I'd have time to 'adjust' to the wire.
In my room, my system, my speakers..... I could not tell a beans worth of difference between the two "boutique" wires and the Carrol Cable brand, 12g outdoor low voltage wire I was already using.
This is through a pair of TAD drivers so I'd like to think I had equipment that was revealing enough to tell.
So for my non-extensive, non-scientific experiment, I'll stick with zip cord stuff.
