Thanks very much for this helpful post, jbrrpl! It's nice to hear from someone who can do a side-by-side comparison.
I like my Dulcets A LOT. They are direct, expressive, musical and a lot of fun to listen to. They provide just enough of the bass foundation in my room not to sound small or anemic. They do the fabled "disappearing act" better than any other speaker I've ever had in my listening room – and I've had a bunch. :-) And their imaging prowess, with good recordings, really brings the performance right to you.
Reference 3A has a deal such that if you have no local authorized dealer, you can buy from them direct, and if you want to move up in their line, you can do so at full credit for six months following your purchase. That's why I'm toying with the idea of moving up to the the DaCapo's.
Again, my only concern is that I don't have enough placement flexibility in my medium-small room to make them sound good. I have the Dulcets about 26 inches in front of the wall, but the right speaker is only about 20 inches to the left of the right wall – kind of close to the corner, overall, and that's what worries me a bit about moving up to the larger speaker.
