Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Its STILL a bookshelf speaker!

I notice that a lot of standmounts are called mini monitors...

I know that that lable really doesn't insure that said speaker produces
a completely acurate response. You can name a louspeaker anything that sounds great, to be honest, and still not have an accurate speaker.

Then there are claims that a Mini monitor (bookshelf) can play full-range
better than (Ahem!) a floorstanding loudspeaker, the thing is you cannot defiy physics and a small cabinet with a small driver just cannot provide the same extension as a well designed floor stander.

A poorly designed floor stander will sound inferior to a good standmount, but both should perform nearly equally in every reguard if both loudspeakers are of the same quality.

I read a post directed at my system on some forum (could have been this one) that said I should sell everything and get a pair of bookshelf speakers and NO sub-woofer, and I would get "better" bass extension...

A bookshelf speaker cannot pressurize a room without a sub-woofer, and standmounts tend to roll off pretty quickly due to thier limited size.

any decent Music has a full range of sound, even acoustic pop with guitar vocals and Cajon (box drum) has sub-bass harmonics.
