Skyptical mensurer?
I'm a trained analyst and measurer, but usually describe myself as a general systems analyst. My last career was a strategic change-agent and systems-architect in health informatics at an international level. I worked for the biggest private insurer in Australia.
My first responsible jobs in the army and beyond, were analytical. My formal qualifications came later on.
I'm very alert to the misuse or 'driving' of measurement to support particular points of view, especially in policy and politics. Ignorance of statistics and other techniques plays an important role in the decision making of managers, and of most commentators in politics. The history of the issue of teacher-pupil ratios is just one example. Using always unbiased estimators e.g. to set thresholds, is another.
In audio? Most (all) of the reported DBT-ABX tests. Not because I don't support testing, but because high values of beta (>0.5) when alpha is forced low, mean the reported results are also being forced.
They do prove that it is difficult for listeners to identify changes when listening to an unfamiliar system in an unfamiliar room. But we knew that anyway ;-)! This is my other main problem with these tests.
The quite general lack of understanding of how we respond to acoustic music is another concern. The tendency of many 'philes to tail-chase over equipment, 'issues' and effects from incorrect impedance-matching* are also striking. * Especially with MC carts.
I am skeptical about 'the public skeptics' and about atheists like Dawkins. Post-modernism and its woolly misuse by 'intellectuals' makes me angry.
