Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

We listen to a lot more than just drivers

Really,

Better drivers can help. But the cabinet design and materials, damping materials, crossover network, and cross over component make-up, and wiring all play important roles in producing the final sound of the speaker. Different cabinet materials and sizes resonate differently, - some dramatically so. You can't look at what kind of driver is used, then predict what the speaker will sound like. That would be very, very, foolish. There are so many other variables at play, not only with the drivers and the overall speaker, - but then when you take into account the amps, source, cables, and room: such talk becomes very silly, very quickly.

"Asylums with doors open wide,
Where people had paid to see inside,
For entertainment they watch his body twist
Behind his eyes he says, 'I still exist.'"
