I'm not familiar with those cables but what you propose doesn't sound unreasonable. It'll sound OK.
However, Alons are designed for (and really do sound best) tri-wired. The cheapest and simplest way to do that is by purchasing Carl's own Black Orpheus cables, which aren't the last word in cabling (where you can easily spend thousands) but are excellent on the IVs. After all, they were designed by the speaker designer to complement his product.
You'd have to spend a boatload of green to get a significant improvement (triwire ain't cheap) so just go for the Black Orpheus. An 8' run can usually be found on Audiogon for around $150 or so.
Using the existing wire is OK for a stop-gap and the speakers will still be enjoyable, but your friend won't hear the Alon IVs at their best until they are tri-wired. I had Alon Vs for years and tried several different combos, bi and tri: tri worked the best by a good margin.
