polk makes a sub/sat/surround system that easily trounces the bose. likewise, vendersteens will do the same. if one has heard vandys sound poor, it was a poor demo.
they need to be away from boundaries, especially side ones. if they must be placed in close proximity to a side wall, they need to be angled directly at the listener because of their wide dispersion.
snap judgments lead to big time errors.
