Given a set of speakers the following factors all affect to a smaller & larger degree, the amount of bass extension -1. Dimensions - theoretically about 30 ft is needed for very low notes but in practice not so important
2. Shape - the closer to a cube, the worse the sound
3. Materials - resonant floors, ceilings etc can play havock just as very hard undamped surfaces cause massive confusion
4. Placement - critical, particularly for bass.
5. The amp - a surprising number are a bit soft at the bottom end
We designed our house around a irreguarly shaped pentagon lounge/music room. It has a suspended slab concrete floor, a cathedral ceiling, more than 30 ft in front of the bass drivers BUT it took years to get a decent bass response because the drivers were in the wrong place and the amp being used was a bit soft at the bottom end - a Plinius SA100 fixed that!
So, to finally answer your question, yes dimensions are important but so are a lot of other factors.
