I tried this with my Studio 40's (also rear-ported) and they sounded terrible. Lots of resonance-type things going on from the mids on down but I couldn't tell you if it was because of the ports or just having all those flat, reflective surfaces so close to the speaker. Probably more the latter. They're much happier on stands about 18" away from the tv.
