I think it would work fine. I once used a Denon 2700 for a few months with a pair of of CDM1's while I was seeking a new integrated amp and it really wasn't that bad at all. The Denon receivers are actually not bad for music. It's true you will not be getting the best of them or reaching their fullest potential but you said you only listen to music 30% of time anyhow. For your needs, I think you'll be very satisfied. Oh by the way, I once owned a pair of the 601's and the upgrade to the CDM series was an excellent step up.Sean H
