Re: Soliloquy 5.3 or Reynaud Twin??

You may want to try the Soliloquy 5.0 instead of the 5.3. It looks almost *identical* to the Reynaud Twin, right down to the grilles. (Both have the woofer above the tweeter.) Priced more in line w/ the Twin as well. Most Solioquy salespeople I've talked to prefer the 5.0 to the 5.3. I listened to 5.0's extensively at a store- not as coherent as the Twin (exceptional in this regard), but the 5.0 does have a *fabulous* tweeter- the 5.0 has a superb top end. (Brushed cymbals on a jazz track!!!) I think the Soliloquy (rear tuned port) might be more finicky with room placement than the Twin (transmission line), as well as sensitivity to source quality- not as forgiving- the Twin will match up better with a variety of electronics, especially clean solid-state. The 5.0, however, does provide the type of load which makes it ideal to use with SET amps. (I have not heard the 5.3.)

Both great speakers- I think the Soliloquy 5.0 might impress more on the "audiophile" aspects- staging, resolution, "airy" HF response. The Reynaud Twin will impress more on the "music" aspects- forgiving, listenable for hours without fatigue, and an electrostatic-type coherence in the midrange/lower treble that is rare in any dynamic speaker, let alone one that costs under a grand.
