I agree that the MG11A & B stands leave a lot to be desired. I used to have a pair of MG11B. The best stands you will get are "DIY" (using a welder or contract out to a welding shop) . Use 50mm x 50mm thickwalled steel tube welded into a trapezoidal shape (2 required per speaker), as follows:PEICE 1. One almost vertical peice approx 1800 mm long (Actual length to suit height of speaker- This side will be connected to the front baffle plate or timber edge of the MG11A when welded into shape)
PEICE 2. One short peice, approx 200 mm long welded at 90 degrees to the top of PEICE 1.
PEICE 3. One peice about 800 mm long welded to the bottom end of PEICE 1 at a point 200 mm from the front end of peice 3.
PEICE 4. A piece 1800 mm + long on an angle from the vertical connecting the free ends of PEICE 2 and PEICE 3 (this will neccessitate and angle cut to the ends of peice 2 & 3 .
For improved rigidity and ease of handling you could cross connect the 2 trapezoidal frames of each speaker.
Sorry for the cryptic description, but I have yet to work out how to post diagrams to the Asylum. I have tried the usual cut and paste from the drawing editor in Word 97 and Microsoft Paint without success - Any computer experts out there? .Suggestions would be VERY welcome.
The resulting frame should be a slender trapezoidal shape with a protruding front leg- narrow end facing up. Mount 2 of these to the MG11A baffle plate or timber sides. In Australia, the material cost would be about $100 ($US 55 approx). Labour, free if you have a nice friend or relative...
Hopefully?????? this description is clear. If not, please ask.
HAVE FUN,
JOEY
