The 2251 are $10,880.00 a pair.I haven't heard them. but guess they are excellent.
I've found if you look hard enough you can find a used pair of the 4" compression drivers like the 4001 or 4002 for under $1500.00 for the pair. Then mate them with either Bruce Edgar's round tractrix horns or the Sierra Brooks round wooden horns. The horns vary in price from around $600.00 a pair to $4500.00 a pair for these monster 32" 140 cycle horns.
Then all you need is high efficiency 12 or 15" bass driver and a crossover. The TAD and Altec woofers are really good. At most you might have $2000.00 in a pair of woofers, enclosures and crossovers. So on the high side, you can build a WORLD class speaker for around $8000.00 (less than the TAD 2251's) !
