Re: adding whizzer cones.

Hi Robin -

Very cool! - I've thought of doing this with a lapped paper whizzer but haven't tried it yet but I talked to a buddy about a year ago who took a large paper dust cap, then inverted it to create a concave whizzer on an 8" woofer - he seemed happy with the HF extention - It must be a 'lost art' as many full range speakers of my youth employed a whizzer cone. It would be neat to see the folks withthe $$$ computer measuring programs try a bunch of homemade whizzer cones, and see what 'works' with regard to paper/profile/size and subjective listening -

I just passed up a beautiful pair of unloaded 'Edgarhorn' enclosures on Ebay tonight - they went for only $212/pair! - 134lb each of 1" plywood - they used the Lowther and i felt i couldn't afford the little delicate drivers! - also the fear of foam rot in my humid area - there must be some good inexpensive candidates for conversion to whizzer! Maybe someone can guess? I bet some of the 8" VIFA paper-cone woofers would be good - they are getting a bit pricey nowdays - used to catch em on sale at madisound for about $25 ea.

best wishes

Freddy
