Few questions

What kind of speakers do you have? Have you set a budget for yourself?

Budget might well be a determining factor which could then set the pace of your pursuit of the best stands for your speakers, unless you have already done that. How about asking the manufacturer of your speakers what they recommend? In almost any case high mass and rigidity is desired. You wouldn't have to have steel, steel is just more dense than cement or wood and is usually less resonant. The JM Reynaud stands, and others, take a different approach and directly address resonance frequencies, but it doesn't necessarily equal better.

I don't know of a resource explaining how or why rigid stands are desired and what effect they have on speakers, sorry.
