While we were in grad school, a lot of folks were out making money. Contrary to the original poster's assumption, there could be an inverse correlation between the abilities to buy toys and compose English.More seriously, the internet has probably made most people write more -- according to a survey a week or two back, over half the population is now e-mailing. There may be more day-to-day English composition by more people now than ever before in history. This is great. The kind of correctness that you and I were taught to value (even enforce) is going to suffer -- clearly most people have no idea what to do with apostrophes, for example, but they manage pretty well. OTOH this kind of forum *does* force people to try and communicate, which is what writing is for.
