Most subwooders will sense when there is no sound and turn off after 15 minutes or so. Some have a switch on the sub which needs to be set for that, otherwise it is permanently on. On my sub, it shuts down about 15 minutes after I mute the preamp, and comes on instantly when the music starts playing.
