thanks. cant say i have heard the frugals. not too fond of blh
in general; don't like the delayed bass.
love the M J King open baffle with the alpha 15a woofer and the fostex
103 mid/tweeter, although I don't like how far away one must get from
them in order to get the treble and bass together with ea. other. OB
speakers must be 3 ft. out from the wall, and so if you are firing across
the room you aren't going to have much room behind you and you will be
very close to the speakers.
are those a25 that you have? I have made a very good system with 2pr
of a25. rather than stacking them, I have cut out the back middle of
one speaker and bolted another a25 behind it (with a rubber seal in between). wired for 4 ohm now, and not good with tubes. the aperodic port
is blocked from the back with a piece of wood glued in.
the tweeters are disconnected and i have a sm. fostex speakers (fe164, but you could use something else0 in small
plywood frames on top of the dynacos, OB style, back a couple of inches for time alignment. they are fed with a 13 uF cap. This fostex is driven by an integrated tube amp, from the 8 ohm tap.
these speakers will not go loud, but the bass is much better and lower than with a single a25. not boomy liked stacked pairs the treble is
much better than the stock a25 too.
i actually like setting the vol. independently on the two speakers.
it is not the pain one would think it would be. i have had many compliments on this implementation and it is my best box speaker so far.
all of that said, i shall go back to OB.
