Growling

I have had a pair of HGS-10 subs for years. They tend to make a low growling sound, sort of like an animal in the corner. If it gets louder, look out.

I got blasted out of bed one night when something went wrong on the sub, it sounded like an earthquake. I've replaced a plate amp every other year on those. The last time one of them would make a howling noise, then shut off. Both amp and driver had to be replaced, because the servo sensor went bad.

An old guy at Velodyne told me that the HGS-10 was too small for almost all rooms. They get overstressed and blow up. He said to go big, 18" was the size to buy, preferably two.
