Review: BG Radia Z-7 (vs Sierra-1)

Just got a pair of this Z-7 from a great guy locally 2 hours ago, it was just a great deal I cannot pass even though my small apt is crammed to the ceiling as it is.

spec:
# 4 Ohm, 88 dB/w/m
# 150 watt program power handling
# (2) 5.25" aluminum woofers
# (1) 3" NEO PDR tweeter
# Electronically matched crossovers with polypropylene capacitors

This is just a short review, as I'm still only a fresh inmate. So far I only tested w/ those BW/wilson/Marantz sampler/reference CDs.

My good old sierra 1 never have problem in imaging, wherever I put it, it pins down the image without effort, very acommodating. Z-7 is harder to catch in this, BUT once its there (I have it 9ft apart toe-in), the imaging is razor sharp and more consistent than Sierra. On every sampler CDs I have, it never failed.

And then there is the High. WOW! chillingly good. My 100w jolida all tube have them sing. Airy, spacious, all from this small package. It sounds diff than the custom Seas on Sierra1. Again, because of the pinpoint imaging, it enchance the high even better. Transiency is superb, from the 2 hours I been listening, its a tab better than Sierra, alum cone+ribbon, I guess it should be.

The bass is where the Sierra 1 fights back. For just a bookshelf, I think it has tighter and lower bass (down to 39 on paper). It might be due to the enclosure.

Overall, I'm very very surprise they haven't been more publicly known. They're fun, airy, with superb imaging, and should be on every poor man audiophile's shopping list. I'm gonna be very happy enjoying this w/ my family for this Xmas.
